My top 5 drugstore highlights that I really love. My skin tone is light/medium with a neutral undertone. I'm the type of person who likes a more subtle highlight.
1) ELF Baked Blush - Pinktastic
Shade: Golden Pink with finely milled gold shimmers
When I bought this product, I heard good things about it. It doubles as a blush topper on any matte blush and as a highlighter. I used to wear this to work. It was my holy grail. The golden pink melts into my skin showing tiny finely milled gold shimmers on the cheekbones. No matter what season it is, and how pale or tan I was, it gave me the subtle glow I needed and wanted for my looks.
2) Maybelline Master Glaze Blush Stick - Warm Nude/ Maybelline Master Hi-Light Blush - Nude
Shade: Master Glaze Blush Stick - Nude with a bronze undertone with tiny gold shimmers
Shade: Master Hi-Light Blush - Pinkish Nude with tiny gold shimmers
Master Glaze Blush Stick - I bought this when the product was on sale. I liked it more as a highlight than a cream blush. It's creamy and I noticed it sets pretty quickly.
For easy application, I use my finger to tap the highlighter into my skin before it sets. On its own, it gives me a hint of color with tiny micro gold shimmers
Master Hi- Light Blush - I also bought this product when it was on sale. I didn't feel the love for this product as a blush or a blush topper. The first time I tried it out it didn't show up on my skin. On its own, the color was pretty light but I had to build it with other colors, for it to show up on my skin. I tried using the shimmery shades, but instead of it being more vibrant, it turned out more of a light pale pink shade.
When I swirled my fan brush with all the shades blended, the combination ended up being a mixture of matte and shimmers without being too strong of a shade.
When I combined these two combinations together, I liked the outcome quite a bit. I wore the two shades almost every day
3) L'Oreal True Match Lumi Liquid Glow Illuminator Primer and Highlight - Rose
Shade: Rose with a bronzer undertone with tiny gold shimmers
When this product launched, I wasn't sure how I felt about it. When I bought the Maybelline blush stick and hi-light blush, I bought this at the same time since it was on sale. They had testers for all 3 L'Oreal True Match Lumi Liquid Glow Illuminator Primer and Highlight in Golden, Ice and Rose at the store location. I tested all 3 of them on my hand and walked into the stores to see what shades I liked the most. I really liked the Rose shade. It was something different that I don’t have in my collection. I only wore this during the winter and summer seasons. During the winter, this product gives me a nice warm glow. During the summer, the product makes my tan look like it has a natural glow due to the subtle hint of gold shimmers.
4) Essence Pure Nude Highlighter - Be My Highlight
Shade: Champagne Nude
I bought this in the summertime, after I saw this on the Essence display and noticed that they added new items to the stand. I saw the highlight, which was also at an affordable price. I wasn't sure if this item would be a hit or a miss for me since I haven't seen social media advertisement for it at all, and no tester was available at the store. I decided to take the risk anyway. When I finally tried it out, I was stunned by the pigment. The one thing I noticed was that it was matte and gave a very subtle glow.
5) Wet n Wild Megaglo Highlighting Powder - Precious Petals
Shade: Bronze with peach undertone
This was the most hyped up highlighter on social media. It is affordable but it was hard to find just because in Canada, only certain Wal-Mart stores carry the Wet n Wild line.
When Wet n Wild came out with two Megaglo Highlighting Powders, I picked up two of them, while it was in stock since it’s always sold out. The first time I used Precious Petal, I was blown away how pigmented it was. In the container, the powder looked more bronze. When I applied it to the cheekbones, it turned the bronze into this subtle peach undertone. This product looks amazing and would definitely compliment a tan
