My Thoughts: Joe Fresh Illuminating Primers

In 2006, Joe Fresh was founded in Toronto. It is an all-in-one company that sells clothing, skin care, a cosmetic line and nail care.

The company expanded globally. The flapship store is located in New York City. Joe Fresh has freestanding stores in Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Egypt

and United Arab Emirates. The first Joe Fresh store opened in in the Philippines in 2016. Joe Fresh Cosmetics is cruelty free.

Packaging:

The packaging is in a clear plastic bottle with the color of the product showing. The cap is white and the bottom ring can screw off. It comes with a pump and the ring on the outside surrounding the pump is silver. The pump is removable.

(Think of ELF Glow Primer, except ELF has more of a golden undertone than this Joe Fresh product)

Pure Glow - White iridescent with purple-ish pink shimmer tint

(Think of Mac Stroke Cream or liquid, L'Oreal True Lumi Liquid Glow Illuminator Prime and Highlight in Ice)

Thoughts:

I went onto the Joe Fresh website to see if they carried the cosmetics line and it looks like they don't. Superstore carries the men, women and children apparel, skin care and their cosmetics line. Shoppers Drug Mart just carries the cosmetics line. The primers is expensive from the drugstores but I got mine on sale.

There are so many illuminating primers out in the market that an be a variety of hits or misses. I'm not going to repurchased this again. I wore it 4 times, 2 of each of the champagne and pure glow. Here are the reasons why I don't like it.

I screwed off the pump to smell the product and it smells like the Elmer liquid glue. When I put this onto my face, I didn't get any scent at all.

I'm not sure how to explain the texture. It feels liquidy at first then felt creamy to the touch, blending unevenly. Another downside to the product was when I used both products. I had to work pretty quickly as it sets to a matte finish, quite quickly. I noticed that some spots on my face appeared shinier than other parts. Both primers consisted of finely milled shimmers.

Both of my room and bathroom got fluorescent white light bulbs.

When I applied the primers, I looked into the mirror to see if the primers would show up golden or white, both blended into my skin fairly well so it wasn't noticeable.

- When I was in my room and looked in the mirror from far away there was no illumination to the skin, but upon looking at a closer distance, I could see tiny flecks of gold shimmers and the purple-ish pink tint

- I went into my bathroom since the walls are white and it was brighter in there, and it was the same thing, it did not do much for my skin and it looked liked I had no primer on.

- I went outside since it was still daylight out, and the shimmer was not present.

- 2 pumps of each primers. I could tell that the Champagne wasn't noticeable but the Pure Glow I can see the purple-ish pink tint to the skin.

On the skin it looked liked hologram.

- I wore the both primers on different weeks, using just one pump each with the same foundation that is light coverage with a buffering brush. I blend the foundation into my skin and I couldn't see any of the illumination at all. I tried it again but with a damp sponge, and there were no illumination of the skin, just a matte finished-look to my skin.

Champagne - Since the primer was golden it didn't showed up on the skin. When I looked into the mirror from a distance I didn't see any flecks of gold shimmers.

I got up close to the mirror, and I checked for flecks of gold shimmers but it wasn't noticeable. When I think of Champagne, I think of Jennifer Lopez’s glow that she has. I definitely did not get that glow.

Pure Glow - Since the primer was white, it didn't show up on my skin. When I looked in the mirror from a distance, I didn't see the purple-ish pink tint. I got up closer to the mirror, and I can see the purple-ish pink tint. When I think of Pure Glow I think more of the Angelic with a nice dewy glow.

But here are the pros and cons.

Pro:

- Pump allows for easy access of the product

- Tube is clear to visibly see the shade of color

- Tube is clear to help identify how much product is left

- Can be used on its own or mixed in with other products

Con:

- Smell like Elmer liquid glue

- Sets too quickly

- Blends out uneven

I'm going to give both another try but ensuring to follow these three tips.

The three tips to wear this illuminating primers:

1) Mix it in with other foundations for that dewy effect

2) Use this as a base for a powder highlighters

3) Mix it in with body lotion to create the shimmery glow
